So you have a weak pelvic floor - why it matters
Jul 11, 2022
So what, your pelvic floor isn't what it once was... Why should you care?
Let me paint a picture for you. Share why this matters. A picture of your future with a pelvic floor that isn't serving you.
- The NUMBER 1 reason why women are admitted to residential care in old age is "toiletting". An inability to control your bladder and bowel make independent living very tricky. BUT a recent study of women in care age 90+ showed that symptoms can be improved dramatically even at this age. Independent living in your golden years is dependent on your pelvic floor!
- Confidence comes in many forms but feeling that you can't rely on your body can really impact your confidence. Confidence to wear the clothes you want, do the activities you want, go to the places you want. All without fear or embarrassment. One of my clients told me she had been wearing black leggings for years because she had leaked during class on numerous occasions, what a knock of confidence! Black leggings BE GONE!
- What is life without fun, adventure and excitement? But what if you could no longer go on holiday because you were worried about not being near a toilet? What if you were worried about intimacy in your relationship because of pelvic pain? How about not applying for that new job for fear of time off with back pain? And are you planning on jumping on the trampoline with your grandkids? So many joyful experiences rely on our pelvic health.
- And how about that balance..? Maybe not an issue in your 30's and 40's but 1in3 women over 50 break a bone! That means rehab, pain, weakness and possible a lack of independence. You know how we all get a little more fearful of falls as we age...imagine that stopping you from living the life you want? A strong and functioning pelvic floor will support your centre of gravity and reduce your chance of a fall.
