Moving Safely and Restoring Strength with Diastasis Recti

diastesis recti strength Nov 12, 2021

Usually associated with the postnatal lady, Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation) can actually go undiagnosed for years and only becomes apparent when symptoms such as back pain, pelvic pain, incontinence, or hernia become an issue.

Often the issue becomes apparent in menopause because of the reduction in muscle mass meaning weakening of the support structure that has been disguising the problem. Happily, the separation itself isn't really a problem, but we do need to ensure there is a good level of tension in the abdominal wall to protect the lower back and internal organs, and this can be created through proper use of the breath and efficient core connection.

In this video, I will talk you through how to use the breath to find the core connection, how to add in movement and incorporate your core connection to other positions and movements, and some safe ways to strengthen this area safely without exaggerating the problem.
